 sculpture enlargement by pointing machine
Sculpture by Sabin Howard
Showing the two cages used for pointing up an enlargement, in this case made of metal and welded together. They were made at Tallix Art Foundry in Beacon, NY. Tallix also made the welded armature and foam core for the enlargement.
The original plaster model sits inside the small cage at the left, the big version of the sculpture is being built in the large cage.
A couple of copies of the model are kept close at hand for easy reference.

Point is located in three dimensions on the ½-scale model. Measurements are doubled to find the equivalent point on the 2X-enlargement.

The point is marked with a peg on the enlargement. Some of the points are anatomical landmarks, and in some areas points are plotted in a grid pattern.
Some of the foam core has been cut off to allow for a thicker layer of clay.

A little further along, still below the depth of the pegs and gradually building out the forms.

The finished enlargement.
